The D1200R is a BMW motorcycle based prototype is based on the BMW R1200R, but extensive modifications have been made including a new chassis, new front suspension and bodywork is typical. The project, which took over one year to complete, starting with BMW R1200R equipped with sensors and taken to the track. After collecting a large amount of data to redesign the top-to-bottom thorough begins. While the bike may be recognized by the untrained eye, the powerplant of D1200R is unmistakably BMW 1200cc boxer engine. Buell XB12 of the braking system has been installed and the suspension arms are mounted to allow the oscillation small adjustment of the rake angle.

The Gina cloth-covered car is a prototype vehicle from BMW that is covered with fabric rather than metal. Like a living animal, its skin wrinkles a bit when elements are extended (like opening the doors).
The shape of the skin can be altered by the car's owner; it is stretched across flexible metal wires attached to the frame that can be moved with hydraulics.
The fabric itself is a silver expansion-resistant textile that is form-fitted to the car's structure. "The high-precision fit of the material to the metal mesh also allows surface changes without slackening the tension," a spokesman said.
I can't think of a cloth-covered car in science fiction; readers may have a reference. However, I think that sf writers could suggest some improvements on the fabric skin.

BMW 2015 Concept Car

Don’t you just love futuristic car designs? Sure, some may look cool but not quite practical. There are many designers who’d try to come up with something fancy. The guys over at Volkswagen showed us some interesting concepts, but BMW has some more radical concepts in mind. They want their cars to look something like this before 2015.


The designs you see in these images are provided by a group of Transportation Design students at Turin-based IED (Istituto Europeo di Design). They sure have a more aggressive and aerodynamic look than those presented by VW.


Apparently, the BMW prototype doesn’t really fit the 2015 time scheme. We might see a commercial version 50 years maybe, but for 2015 it still looks ahead of its time. DVice infors that it is dubbed BMW ZX-6 Concept and it was designed by Jai Ho Yoo and Lukas Vanek. These guys though of something that would break the speed of sound, I reckon. It looks cool, but I wonder if it has any wheels. It might be using other kinds of propulsion, maybe some levitating pads. Anyway, the concept integrates some sleek curves and shiny materials, make it visually appealing and an instant girl magnet.

It looks far out, but I’d still take it to a tuning center.

2010 BMW S1000RR

 
Making 193bhp and 83lb/ft of torque, the 2010 BMW S1000RR is the most powerful 1000cc production bike on the market. More importantly, weighing 183kg dry and 204kg fully fueled, it also has the best power-to-weight ratio. Troy Corser just took the wraps off the production BMW S1000RR in Monza, the bike will go on sale in most markets, including the US, in January.
Cams act on Formula 1-style finger followers, which in turn lever the titanium valves open. Benefits are 50 percent less weight, faster valve acceleration and more lift in less space.
